Firstly, thanks so much to all the contributors to Second Skin, the European premier of which I've just seen at the Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival.
This docco really needed making. Falling in love online whether through gaming, forums or social networking, is such a common occurrence nowadays that someone needed to document what was happening.
My partner Brian and I fell in love on a discussion forum for rock climbers, 7 years ago, without knowing what one another looked like. By the time we met IRL it was love at first sight. At first the problems in being together were monumental, but we refused to give up and now seven years on we're happier than ever and about to get married next year. We wanted to get married years ago, but both of our divorces wiped us off the map financially, and we're only just recovering!
I wrote a novel inspired about our experience called MY ADVENTURES IN CYBERSPACE, which is due for publication in Spring 2009 (see sig link.)
Finally, thanks so much to Juan from both Brian and myself for a lovely evening after the screening on Sunday, an evening full of camaraderie and good conversation. I guess real life interaction will never beat online interaction, but both work best when one leads to the other...
